Bangalore CONNECT- PROJECT AND ARCHIVES OF VISUAL CULTURE.

Supported by
INDIA FOUNDATION FOR THE ARTS & Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan

1Shanthiroad Studio/Gallery has been an informal archive of the city of Bangalore and a site for artists and curators to access the resources available in our space. We wish to consolidate this more formally through extended research, documentation, a compilation of information, and digital access that culminates in the creation of a physical archive housed at 1Shanthiroad Studio/Gallery for artists and other cultural practitioners to use and refer to for their respective projects.

More specifically, we wish to build an archive of projects materialized in the past by artists and curators in and about the city. Additionally, we aim to build upon the archive by looking at the different histories of Bangalore not just pertaining to art and culture but also about local communities. This archive will be located in 1Shanthiroad but will also be mobile and flexible to move to other institutions for further collaborations. It will nurture students, artists, and curators to explore the city, its people, and the many micro-narratives that have constructed this city. It will trigger conversations, projects, and interventions about Bangalore. Furthermore, our project BANGALORE CONNECT, supported by India Foundation for the arts & Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, is a fifteen-month curated artistic engagement project that consists of Six sub-projects. This part of the CONNECT project will also directly inform and contribute to the aforementioned archive which would ultimately comprise maps, literature, photo & art books, photographs, films, videos, and also other personal archives contributed by others
