As artist in residence at 1Shantiroad Simon Torssell Lerin has been working with trees and plants growing in and around Bangalore. He has been recording in Lalbagh botanical garden, Cubbon Park, Nandi hills and the big banyan tree of Dodda Alada Mara. With GSR-sensors Lerin records bio-electrical signals from the plants. He converts the electrical data into music by feeding the signals from the plants into his modular synthesizers. The plants then control notes, melodies, and rhythms in the music.
At 1Shantiroad Simon Torssell Lerin will share his research in an artist talk as well as perform a mini-concert with plants.
Simon Torssell Lerin is an artist in residence at 1Shantiroad through IASPIS, Swedish Arts Grants Committee’s International Programme for Visual and Applied Artists.
